Restricting users in Business Central is a common task for administrators. By assigning users specific permission sets, administrators can control what data and functionality each user has access to. This can help to protect sensitive data and ensure that users only have the permissions they need to perform their job duties.
One way of restricting users in Business Central is to assign them the D365 Basic permission set. This permission set gives users access to the system, but limits what they can do. For example, users with the D365 Basic permission set can only view and print data. They cannot create, edit, or delete data.
To assign the D365 Basic permission set to a user, follow these steps:
- Go to the User group from the search bar.
- Click new and fill in the related fields as shown below.
- Click on Permissions from the Fast tab to set the permission set for the newly created User group as shown below.
- Add D365 Basic from the Permission set list.
- Now add member(s) for this user group from the Members button on the fast tab.
- Click on Add users to define user(s) for this group.
- Select a user you want to assign for this group.
So far, we have assigned a user group and a permission set to a user. To verify this, we can navigate to the following process described below.
- Go to the search bar, search users and select the related link as shown below.
- Click on the user for which you have previously assigned the group.
- User Group and Permissions are defined below.
We saw above how a Basic Permission Set can be assigned to one or more users. The next steps may involve creation of custom Permission Sets. This is a topic for a future blog. If you need further information you can contact us at our email address given below.
